We're grateful for our journey together.
Our inspiration was ignited in Episode 1; we ventured into the world of wedding dress shopping in Episodes 2 and 3; we embraced the demanding yet vital experience of completing dress alterations in Episode 4, and finally prepared ourselves for our grand walk down the sle in Episode 5.
And now, I have a confession to share.
I tied the knot.
Let me take you back to the beginning. Garrison, my husband, and I got married just two weeks before his deployment as a First Lieutenant with the United States Army in Iraq in 2011. The looming one-year deployment left us without much time, resources or desire for a grand wedding ceremony.
We initially promised ourselves that there would be a five-year vow renewal party for all our cherished fris and family members. Then, before we knew it, our 5-year anniversary had passed, and with the sudden emergence of unprecedented times in 2020, we opted for a more intimate celebration. The year began promisingly as social gatherings were resuming; as we embarked on celebrating our eleventh year married life, November 11th stood out prominently on our calar: not just Veterans Day but also numerically significant due to our original wedding date being January 1st, 2011. A theme, indeed.
When crafting this wedding series for you and experiencing the excitement, joy, anxiety, and stress of planning a wedding once agn as a bride despite already being married, I hadn't anticipated the emotional rollercoaster. I wted this long to plan my dream wedding because I knew what I wanted but didn't know how to manifest it.
When it came to selecting inspiration for my wedding dress design, I found myself returning to you - all brides and individuals who have enriched my career by allowing me to fit them into beautiful garments from suits to wedding dresses. Rather than starting with a silhouette or the overall shape of the dress, I gathered snippets like lace edgings, shortened satin trns, individual iridescent beads, hummingbird-shaped sequined appliques, etc., to piece together a dress that truly represented love and glitter.
After the ceremony concluded, my plans for celebrating were quite ambitious, but my restricting skirt and trn wouldn't have allowed it. To cater to my needs, I created satin hot pants that were hidden by the visible bodice until I removed the overlay, revealing a sassy yet practical satin romper perfect for post-ceremony festivities.
And now for the grand finale:
The reveal was breathtaking!
However, this journey isn't solely about me; it's also about the pivotal character in our production who deserves acknowledgment - Garrison. Our good fortune led to an Army change that introduced the delightful and nostalgic 'Pink and Greens' uniform. I personally believe this display of vintage men's fashion is a high point in the history of military dress, which my bias opinion agrees with.
With meticulous tloring and captivating storytelling, we had Garrison ready for our big day: from each gleaming gold button to the ranks and insignia on his sleeves, he was perfectly dressed as a Veteran’s Day wedding ensemble.
Now that I've shared this incredible opportunity of sharing my story and wedding journey with you, it's time to thank all of you who have accompanied us on this ride!
